These photos were made in the Camden (N. J. ) Music Fair. Joan Baez was the only performer on the billing; but she invited Bob Dylan up to perform with her, and their joint set occupied about 1/3 of the entire concert. These pictures are scanned from Ektachrome slides (hence some blurriness and dust); the personal computer had not yet been invented.
I shot these witha Contax IIa or IIIa; the lens was either a Zeiss or a Nikon lens with a Contax mount.

From our library:

Living the Good Life by Helen and Scott Nearing

In the depths of the Great Depression, Scott (an economist dismissed from academia for his radial socialist views during World War I) and his second wife Helen fled New York City in search of a quieter life in which to cultivate their values of pacifism, subsistence, and veganism.

The Good Life is a practical and philosophical account of settling on 200 acres alongside Stratton Mountain in Vermont, where the couple spent the next two decades growing their own food (absent manure or pesticides), building with stone, producing maple syrup and refusing to generate profit: Committed to the value of leisure, the Nearings would work only 4 hours a day, 6 months a year, and when their basic needs were met, abandoned “bread labor” for reflection and constructive avocation.

That way

That way

Think I just found my Halloween costume for next year ;)

Think I just found my Halloween costume for next year ;)

Best band I’ve heard in years

So many parents have said to me, “I can’t stand to see my child unhappy.” If you can’t stand to see your child unhappy, you are in the wrong business. The small challenges that start in infancy (the first whimper that doesn’t bring you running) present the opportunity for “successful failures,” that is, failures your child can live with and grow from. To rush in too quickly, to shield them, to deprive them of those challenges is to deprive them of the tools they will need to handle the inevitable, difficult, challenging and sometimes devastating demands of life.”

- Gotham Gal: Raising Successful Children (via bijan)

cabinporn:
